Today is a big day for R&B junkies across the globe. We have 3 new songs from R&B superstars; Usher, Boys II Men & Angie Stone!!
So far my favorite of the 3 singles is Boys II Men’s new tune, “Back For Good“. It’s actually a remake of the Take That song… That’s right, you heard me right! Take That as in the Robbie Williams boy band from the 90′s! I’ve always loved this song and BIIM did a great job remaking it. Theirs also a female vocalist dueting in this cover track but I have no idea who she is and can’t find any info on her as of yet. (Honestly her vocals are sub par compared to the guys.) Take a listen…

Next up is the latest from Usher called “Papers“. This is definitely Usher’s slam to his ex-wive that he recently divorced. (The lyrics described a love gone wrong and the chorus finds Usher proclaiming that he’s “ready to sign those papers.”) I think the official single artwork (above) is a blurred image of his actual divorce papers. Bitter much??? Sounds like R. Kelly I don’t think he had anything to do with the song since it was produced by Sean Garrett. The song is decent but nothing extraordinary. I was hoping for something a little better from Usher. Mainly because I want him to reclaim his thrown from Chris Brown… But, oh well.

Angie Stone’s new song “I Ain’t Hearin’ You” is probably the most upbeat of the bunch. A lot like the Usher track… It’s OK but nothing special. This one is ripe for the dance remixes though!!! Come on, Freemasons… Turn this snoozer out into a dance-floor stomper!!

R&B superstars Deborah Cox, Tamia & Kelly Price have joined forces to create a powerhouse girl-group called TDK. The 3 divas are working together on an album called The Queen Project and will release a lead single called “Queen” sometime in the very near future. This is very exciting news not only for R&B fans but for dance music fanatics as well since all 3 of these woman have had massive dance hits through out their careers. I’m certain that we will get some stellar remixes of TDK when the project is released. I’m hoping for a Hex Hector comeback remix since his work with Deborah & Tamia were huge anthem back in their day.
I’m not the only one that’s excited about this collaboration… The 3 diva’s have been voicing their excitment about sharing the mic & stage with one another as well. Here’s what the girls had to say about the experience;
Kelly Price: “Truly I am excited because what we’re doing has never been done before with three women on CD”.
“Each of us in our own right is a true vocalist and while I am loving what we’re doing in the studio, I just can’t wait for people to see our live show!”
Tamia: “I’m so excited to work with these ladies because I’m a fan first”.
“It is fun and we have a really good time together. There’s something special here musically and we have a genuine bond.”
Deborah Cox: “”I fee the same way. It’s really the most exciting project I’ve been a part of. We’re going to be raising the bar just a tad. It’s great to work with likeminded individuals. We have the same sentiments as singers, mothers and wives!”
The entire project was the brain-child of producer/writer Shep Crawford who has produced huge R&B hits for the likes of Whitney Houston & Luther Vandross.
“My goal was to highlight the amazing talents individually, while blending them together to unite for this mega project. This is a unique union that will provide the music you have come to expect from these three superstars,”
The 3 divas are currently in the studio working with R&B heavy-hitters such as R. Kelly, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds & Raphael Saadiq on material for The Queen Project which as of now looks to have an early 2010 release date. The entire process is currently being documented for a reality show which will most likely begin to air before the release of the album.
A new Whitney Houston song called “Salute“ just hit the Internet and I actually like this one after first listen unlike the last few tracks that leaked off of her album. “Salute” is a sassy Whitney number where Mrs. Houston is kissing off a love gone bad. The song was produced by R. Kelly & Tricky Stewart and is probably the most “current” sounding production that I’ve heard come off of this new album. At one point in the song Whitney takes a cue from L.L. Cool J and sings “Don’t call it a comeback, I’ve been here for years.” This is probably the most clever (and most relevant) lyric that I’ve heard her song in any of her new material including “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength“. Check out “Salute” and give me some feedback…

Whitney Houston’s title track “I Look To You” off of her soon-to-be released new album was played on a radio station today and fortunately for us a listener recorded the new song for us to hear. No word yet as to if this will be the official first single or not but I can tell you that this ballad is way better than her previously leaked track “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength“. This song was written by R. Kelly for Whitney years ago but she never got around to recording it until recently. It’s a beautiful song and Whitney amazing on the tune… Like the way she use to at the prime of her career. Take a listen for yourself…
*UPDATE: Here’s better quality recording for your listening pleasure. This isn’t ripped off of the radio like the last recording.

Whitney Houston’s new album I Look To You is inching closer and closer to it’s release and the closer we get, the more fun tid-bits and previews I’m finding online! There’s a lot to cover so this will be a long post, but it’s all about Whitney so we’re not complainin’ right?! First check out the clip (above) of Whitney’s rendition of the title track off of the album, “I Look To You“. The song was written by R-Kelly and sounds like a classic Whitney number. Whit-Whit (yes I just called her that) sounds AMAZING in this small clip and I’m already liking this ballad much better than the leaked “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength“.
Next, I found a track by track, detailed review of 7 songs off of Whitney’s new album posted on BET’s website… From this description, the album sounds pretty promising… Check it out… Read the rest of this entry »
Everyday, I’m getting more and more excited about Whitney Houston’s comeback album and I have been DYING to hear a track or two off of the new CD. Well, after doing a little digging I actually found us a sneak peek of the title track, “I Look to You“. Only catch is that it’s not Whitney singing the song… it’s R. Kelly, who apparently wrote the beautiful ballad. Watch the clip… The song is soooo totally “Whitney” and I can’t wait to hear her beautiful voice on this amazing track.
