Mariah Carey fan site, Mariah Daily, got an exclusive interview out of Chicago based dance production team, Jump Smokers. JS are currently in the studio remixing 12 tracks off of Mariah Carey’sMemoirs of an Imperfect Angel album to be released as a stand alone Mariah Carey vs Jump Smokers remix album. Check out this pretty insightful Mariah Daily interview about the remix album with Roman of Jump Smokers…
MD: Have you had the opportunity to personally meet Mariah? If so, what was it like collaborating with her?
A few of us have had the pleasure of meeting Mariah Carey before Jump Smokers even existed & she has been nothing short of amazing every single time! So far, all of our Jump Smokers remixes have been done strictly with her acapella vocals… hopefully one day we can all collaborate in the same studio together.
MD: How many mixes have you finished, and of those, which track is your favorite and why?
Well, obviously people know that we have already finished “Obsessed” & “H.A.T.E.U.” but as of tonight (12/14/09) we have also finished up “Candy Bling” with “Ribbon” and “Up Out My Face” almost done as well.
MD: Will any of your remixes feature newly recorded vocals?
Nope. We’re just gonna be using Mariah’s FLAWLESS acapella vocals over our KILLER electro beats!
MD: Will your tracks be included on the same CD as the confirmed Urban remixes and new songs, or will they be on a separate disc entirely?
From what we understand, our Mariah Carey Vs. Jump Smokers Remix Album will be a completely separate release… and for the record, we still can’t even believe that this is happening to us!
MD: Of the new tracks, did you or are you remixing any, or strictly sticking to mixing tracks from the original disc?
Our Remix Album will have ENTIRELY new music built around Mariah’s existing vocals. Our one and only mission is to turn Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel into an AMAZING dance record.
MD: How did you get involved with that project?
Our manager is very close with Mariah’s camp, so they gave us a shot at remixing her ‘Obsessed’ single. That remix just took off like crazy & not only was it included on her actual Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel CD, but it also got us hired to remix her 2nd single “H.A.T.E.U.” The feedback on that remix has been absolutely unreal, which has led to us landing this entire remix album!
MD: Are you guys remixing the entire album or just a few of the tracks?
The Mariah Carey Vs. Jump Smokers Remix Album will feature 12 tracks off Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel.
MD: What all goes into that? Do her people give you an idea of what they want or do they just say, ‘Do with Mariah as you wish!’
Probably the biggest compliment that we’ve gotten so far as this group is the label told us that they don’t want dance remixes, they don’t want hip-hop remixes….they want JUMP SMOKERS remixes!
MD: Favorite song off ‘Memoirs’?
Well according to Roman, it’s DEFINITELY “Angels Cry,” but we’re still lovin’ our “H.A.T.E.U.” remix!
MD: What’s next for the Jump Smokers?
We are currently in studio lockdown, cuz both our debut album Electro-Pop and this Mariah Carey vs. Jump Smokers Remix album are due by the end of the year… the pressure’s on!
Just came across this video and HAD to share cause I’m a big fan of both Mariah Carey as well as the movie, Mean Girls!! I never saw it before but Mariah was totally inspired by the Mean Girls movie for her “Obsessed” music video… Just watch…
Remember Billie “Kiss the Rain” Myers? Well she’s back with a brand new single called “Wonderful” that already has received the remix treatment by the one and only, Barry Harris, as well as new-comer, Cajjmere Wray. If you know your Barry Harris history… This isn’t the first time Barry & Billie have worked with one another. Way back-when, Barry was a part of the massively successful production-duoThunderpusswith Chirs Cox… It was their production of “Kiss the Rain” that pretty much put the two on the map as one of the most successful remix production teams of all time.
After a long hiatus, Barry is back and has been throwing himself back into the remix-production world as a solo artist. This new Billie Myers production is pretty damn good, if I do say so myself. Dare I say that it’s even a little bit reminiscent of the work he use to do as a part of TP? Not only isBarry back in the game but he’s not messing around… He provided us 3 completely different remixes for the song so that you can best fit it into your set!
Cajjmere Wray’s remix is pretty enjoyable as well. He is quickly becoming one of my favorite up and comers… I’m still getting a lot of play out of his remix of Mariah Cary’s “Obsessed“.
All in all, this is a pretty solid comeback single for BillieMyers with some strong & exciting remixes to accompany it. Check them out for yourselves…

Here’s the first “official” remix I’ve found of Rihanna’s latest single “Russian Roulette“. This one was produced by Jump Smokers who are new on the dance production scene and have been turning out Mariah Carey’s last few singles. What they did to “Obsessed” was brilliant but I’m afraid they didn’t accomplish the same magic with Rihanna. Their remix of “Russian Roulette” is cute but nothing to get too excited about. Oh well… I’m sure there’s more remixes of this track to come…

Mariah Carey appeared on Larry King Live to discuss such hot topics as; A former abusive relationship that she was in as well as Rihanna & Chris Brown’s recent domestic abuse incident. When gears turned and she was asked about all the baby rumors that are currently flying around about the “Obsessed” singer and her hubby Nick Cannon… Mariah chose a not-so-typical way to dispel them;
“Right now? I’m going to take a swig of my scotch and let you know. (Being pregnant) would be the happiest thing in my life, but what I’m saying is right now with this movie coming out, with the next few singles from the album and those things that I’m doing, I need to focus on that because I cannot do the having-a-child thing halfway. I wouldn’t be just like, ‘Oh, I’m having a child, yay! Let me get a nanny so I can give her the baby. Take the kid.’ That doesn’t work me. I don’t believe in that.”
Well, at least she has her priorities in focus. Career & scotch first… Baby, later. I don’t blame you Mariah, you have some more #1′s to obtain and records to break before you set your career second.
Here is Mariah Carey’s appearance/performance on The Today Show for all you hardcore fans, A.K.A. Lambs. I actually really like the way she sounds in “I Want To Know What Love Is” especailly in the begining. At first I couldn’t tell if she was lip syncing or not but by the end it’s more obvious it’s live.
Really Mariah? Good ol’ MC is still denying that her song “Obsessed” is about her arch-nemesis Eminem and is now claiming that the song was intended as an anthem for people who have been abused by a stalker;
“I wouldn’t ever call anyone an inspiration for that song. But I’m happy all the people who have been stalked and abused now have an anthem.”
Yeah, because that’s a very common issue that the every-day joe experiences in life… Being stalked. Nice try back peddling Mariah.
In other MC album news… Mariah has dedicated her new album Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel to Michael Jackson and has already revealed 2 of the songs that will be released as singles as; “Angels Cry” & “Ribbon“. Both decent, “single worthy” songs.

Mariah Carey has been a “hot topic” on my blog lately. Her fanatics (Also known as “Lambs”) have been a little more than emotional with me when I don’t write that I love everything she does. As a matter of fact, I’ve gotten into some heated “comment” wars with the Lambs over Mariah’s new music because I have stated that I wasn’t blown away by some of it.
So… I just listened to the entire Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel album and you Lambs are not gonna like this but I’m gonna stick to my original impression of the record when I listened to the 30 sec. clips… The album isn’t unlistenable but it’s a bit on the boring side. There are a few songs that I think have potential but (here we go…) I think as a whole the album is just mediocre. Especially for what I expect from MC as a fan! (Did u get that part Lambs? I am a fan.) Most of the songs are mid-tempo to slow and I’m not hearing any real strong hooks. I think “Obsessed” and “I Wanna Know What Love Is” were good choices as the first two singles because they are the strongest songs on the album. The only other song that really stands out (as I said before) is “Angels Cry” but even that song doesn’t exceed any expectations that I had for Mariah.
So there you have it. I think I can sum up this album with 4 words: “Not great, not horrible.” And on that note, cue the Lambs getting their panties in a bunch and leaving me nasty, vicious comments… Let the games begin….

Mariah Carey recently recounted how her record label use to break her down with an inferior complex at the early age of 19 when she started her career. We all have insecurities but can you imagine the company you work for reinforcing them on a regular basis. Listen to Mariah’s story….
“I remember starting out and being at a record company at 19 and having someone tell me, ‘This is your good side and this is your bad side. Don’t ever let anyone take any pictures of you from that side. You look terrible from that side’, and so on. I created this whole complex, like I didn’t already have enough of a complex.
“I felt very different as a bi-racial person. Growing up where I was, being half-black and half-white, was a weird and difficult thing because I didn’t quite fit in either place and I moved around a lot. So when I went from that to this world it was like, ‘Let’s create an inferiority complex before we make this person go on TV and try to have confidence.’ So it was all about building self-confidence.”
Wow, I remember hearing rumors that Mariah only wanted pictures taken from “her good side” and always though she was narcissistic for making such demands. Now I know where that originated from and actually feel bad for her. Well Mariah, you look better than ever these days and have multiple “good sides”!
Listen to the Cajjmere Wray club mix of “Obsessed“… My new favorite!
