Madonna Tops Billboard’s Polls And Named 2012′s MVP…

by: Taj | December 19th, 2012

Madonna at 54 has proven once again that she still holds the coveted title “Queen of Pop” this week after Billboard has released their 2012 year-end reader’s poll results. Billboard’s readers have weighed in on their favorite artists, songs and albums of 2012 and to no surprise, Madonna has emerged as the 2012 MVP and came out on top in 5 categories: ”Favorite Billboard 200 No. 1 album (MDNA),” “Best Tour (MDNA TOUR),” “Best TV Performance (Superbowl Halftime Show),” “Most Memorable Feud (Madonna vs Gaga)” & of course “2012 MVP”!

Congrats for the reigning queen and here’s to many more years under your pop music rule!! Here are just a few of my favorite 2012 Madonna moments…

PSY Joins Madonna On MDNA Tour For Some “Gangnam Style” Shenanigans

by: Taj | November 14th, 2012

Why Madonna… WHHHHYYY?! Miss MDNA has jumped on the obnoxious fad-wagon known as PSY and allowed the Korean “singer” to perform “Gangnam Style” on her tour stop in New York. Originally, Madge invited Lady Gaga (totally serious) to join her in Madison Square Garden to perform with her (most likely the “Express Yourself/Born This Way” mashup) but Gaga couldn’t make it happen because of commitments to her own tour. So I guess in Madonna’s eyes – PSY is a suitable substitute. While I can’t stand this song – I will say the “Give It To Me” mashup was pretty awesome…. I just wish she sang more of her own song and did less of the pony-dancing.

Madonna Dedicates Song To Gaga & Claims They Will Collaborate Soon…

by: Taj | September 17th, 2012

In a recent stop in Atlantic City on her MDNA tour, Madonna stunned fans when she dedicated her ballad “Masterpiece”  to Lady Gaga and then went on to claim that she will be be sharing the stage with the “Edge of Glory” singer very soon. Of course most people are skeptical whether or not Madonna was being genuine with her remarks or if she was simply being a sarcastic pot-stirring diva. I can’t believe I’m saying this but being a long time Madonna fan, I really don’t think she was being sarcastic when she made reference to a Gaga collaboration.

Just humor me for a second and think about it… She said they will be “sharing a stage very soon” and she’s currently on the US leg of her tour. The last time Madonna was on tour in the US, she had a couple of  on-stage cameos with appearances by Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Timbaland and Pharrell all in different cities. She’s also currently performing Gaga’sBorn This Way” as a mashup with her own hit “Express Yourself” on her record breaking tour, so I wouldn’t be too surprised if she reached out to Gaga and asked her to perform “B.T.W.” with her on stage to barry the hatchet once and for all about all this! I don’t know… I may be connecting some dots that don’t really connect here but I might not be too basis off either! What do you guys think? Are Madge’s remarks future revelations or pop-fiction?

Madonna Finds Herself In The Middle Of A Political Lawsuit…

by: Taj | July 15th, 2012

Madonna has found herself in the middle of yet another controversy that now has her facing some legal troubles. The shit hit the fan when Madonna performed her MDNA tour in France a few days ago and showed a video that included imagery of French far-right National Front leader, Marine Le Pen, with a swastika on her forehead. (See below)

The clip was a part of a political-charged music video interlude that was set to Madge’s song “Nobody Knows Me“. For those that may not be familiar with Marine Le Pen or the National Front, this political group is very racist (weather they want to admit it or not) and has been trying to remove North African immigrants from their country weather they were already French citizens or not.
When Marine Le Pen first caught wind of Madonna’s tour video, she strongly urged M to remove the image before performing in France or she would take legal action against her. Of course Madonna refused to remove the image and showed the video as she intended it to be seen – swastika and all! According to the BBC, a lawsuit will be filed this week charging Madonna for “insults” which I’m guessing is the equivalent of “slander” in the US judicial system. A spokesperson for the Nation Front had this to say of their stance to take legal action;
“This is just another provocation in Madonna’s world tour so that people will talk about her… Marine Le Pen will defend not only her own honor but her supporters and the millions of National Front voters.”
This isn’t the first time has Madonna has sparked political controversy with her tour, as a matter of fact she has included similar-themed videos in her last few tours which fans love but has rubbed some world political figures the wrong way. Check out the brilliant “Nobody Knows MeMDNA video interlude in full, below…

More Images From Madonna’s MDNA Tour Surface…

by: Taj | May 26th, 2012

I have tried my hardest to not look at any spoiler of Madonna’s MDNA tour before I actually see it live but it’s nearly impossible thanks to Facebook without having to resort to befriending people. LOL. Anyhow, check out the latest batch of photo’s that have surfaced of M’s next world-trek. This tour looks pretty damn AMAZING!! Judging from these images, this new Madonna extravaganza is going to be the polar opposite from her last colorful and bubbly outing! Don’t get me wrong, I LOVED her Sticky & Sweet tour but these pics give me a sense that she’s going for a simple yet more mature and dark feel this time around. Check out the latest images that are getting me all hot and bothered to see this show in person!!!

First Images Of Madonna’s MDNA Tour Surface!!

by: Taj | May 25th, 2012

Madonna had recently mentioned in a radio interview that her MDNA tour would be a bit on the “dark” side but if these newly surfaced images from the set of the tour are any indication, I think she hit the mark and then-some if “dark” is what she was gunning for. (No pun intended) Good ol’ Madge has always been at her best when she stirs up a little controversy and as you can see from these images of blood splatter, crucifixes and lots and lots of guns, M has a fresh batch of shock tactics to serve up on her new world trek! Even though you really don’t get a clear look at her face in any of these pics (which I think is intentional), these images have me excited as ever to see the new gun-slinging reincarnation of Madonna when she hits the US with her highly anticipated! What about you? Are you going…???

William Orbit Says “Best” Tracks Recorded For MDNA Will Go To Chris Brown…

by: Taj | May 19th, 2012

Madonna’s long-time producer William Orbit has a lot to say about his recent work with Queen of Pop on her MDNA album and you may be surprised with what he reveals in his long winded rant about the project! The conversation began today on his Facebook page when he posted the following “unedited” version of M’sRay of Light“.

Naturally, the comments from her fans began to roll in and not to anyone’s surprise so did the criticism. One fan in particular named Madonna Express Yourself began to gripe about her lack of promotion for her latest album and blamed her “no-promo” attitude for the albums poor performance. To this comment, Orbit responded with this looooong 10 paragraph comment where he basically agreed, disagreed and everything in between.

Before I get to the actual comment, I wanted to point out an interesting little piece of tid-bit that William revealed about half-way through his rant. (In case you don’t get that far.) William claims that the “best” tracks he produced for Madonna’s MDNA album where scrapped but snagged up and will be featured on Chris Brown’s next album Fortune! I know some of you will have a huge issue with douche-bag supreme, Chris Brown, getting his grubby little hands on a little piece of Madonna, but I for one am very interested in hearing what this unlikely collaboration of sorts sounds like!! Chris‘ work with Benny BenassiBeautiful People” as well as his collaboration on David Guetta’s album “I Can Only Imagine” are two of my favorite dance-pop tracks of the last few years! I think Brown, as immature and arrogant as he can be as a person, really does the dance-pop music genre justice and I might just have to purchase Fortune to hear these MDNA leftovers!

Here’s what Orbit had to say (and then some)…

“I appreciate your analysis of the album release ‘strategy’ @Madonna Express Yourself. I wasn’t involved in its formulation in any way myself. All I will say is that certain thoughts about it that I see expressed online by committed fans such as yourself, were blindingly obvious to me from the very get go, well before the release. But I’m no Jimmy Iovine, with the ability to advocate my convictions forcefully, and as co-producer, co-writer etc am aware that it is not in my ‘job spec’.

But you won’t see me exactly jumping up and down with delight over the way that things have panned out. We were very pushed for time, due to a rather interesting and shall we just say, ‘traditional’ method of recording that the esteemed engineer Demo was partial to, and various pressing commitments that took up the artists limited time, such as perfume ranges and teen fashion contests and other such endeavours which are beyond my own limited understanding of pop star agendas.

The recording sessions for the six songs I did were hugely enjoyable for all of us. M was on form and better than ever with her singing and writing and musicality, and was having a great time. We had songs lined up that were breathtaking. You’ll hear some of them on Chris Brown’s new album, and they are the best ones, Kreayshawn’s (INCREDIBLE) new album, my own recently completed ‘Strange Cargo’ album. And some other surprising places. SNAPPED up by the artists concerned. Most of them, I believe, destined to become classics (let me know in a couple months wether you concur with that)

The team I assembled in NY for MDNA were, and are as good as it gets now. Writers and musicians and performers I picked because they take my breath away with their talent. And are totally of-the-moment in everything good that is going on in contemporary music at the moment. And usually hard to book because they are so in demand. And all of us fully committed to putting ourselves through extraordinary efforts to make MDNA the greatest album of the year.

But alas, the time wasn’t there. Great swathes of it taken up by the engineer and his assistant bouncing reverb tracks for hour after hour, night after night. Not to real tape or anything, where you could posit that there would be an advantageous sonic dividend (real tape can be magic) but all in the digital domain. A purely procedural thing. Although not a procedure I or any of my own colleagues in this game would want to squander time with.

I was just describing to a friend of mine, and whom I frequently work with Serban Ghenea (just look him up if you want to be awed) how it was done, and he thought I was kidding him!

There. I’ve said it. I did try to say it earlier but I must have not made the point with enough push, my way being to always say it with the music itself.

Over the years it’s become obvious to me that along with Madonna being the greatest pop artist of ALL time, her fan base are also the most ardent, cohesive, discerning and loyal fan base of any artist. Not saying that to blow smoke, is quite obviously true. Big respect. And long life to us all. And as you look at things in a ‘long term’ way (my way also) you always call it like you see it. And I’m with you on that too. Be honest and true, speak your heart and mind, and let the dust fall where it will.

So basically, i’d lie down in the mud if she didn’t want to get her shoes messed up (well, figuratively speaking, neither of us does a lot of Glastonbury mud tramping) it’s hard to be an effective knight when your hands are bound. I will submit to wisdoms that are possibly beyond my comprehension and that will play out to glory in the fullness of time. And get back to my own fervent canvas, and speak no more of the matter.

Oh, and if some bright spark at marketing central suggested a Hilary Clinton approach, ie, press ‘restart’ and get back in the studio for a couple weeks and do what they nowadays call a ‘re-pack’, I’d certainly put my hand up for that, whatever else I had going on. But realistically, there is only one person that could make that happen. And with the best songs in the world, and the best mixing, best ProToolsing, best team, best lyrics, best bananas, after this little screed I don’t suppose I should while away my hours staring at the phone! But i feel better for saying all that. Debt free and not beholden. The thing about having little appetite for riches and fame, and no great tower of expectations, you haven’t got anything to be taken away. And having always been an outsider, outside in the cold, It’s always clear which way the wind is blowing. I was never inside any bubble long enough to forget how the wind blows, and changes, and ebbs and gusts, and dies away completely. As before a storm. And that a beautiful bubble might yield to even a the breeze from a humble fan.”

Later today, William Orbit tweeted this short and sweet remark about his very revealing rant about his work with Madonna.

“The MDNA comments. I should not have said them publicly. I see that and I regret that I said online. Not fair to M.”

Looks like someone got the “you’ll never work with me again” phone call that Madonna is notorious to serve-up when someone says too much!

Madonna Projected To Earn $500 Million In 2012….

by: Taj | May 11th, 2012

The Huffington Post ran an article today breaking down Madonna’s projected income for 2012 and has calculated it out to be around $500 million this year alone! Here is their breakdown of what she’s poised to make;

- $300 million from her MDNA World Tour. Live Nation announced $240 Million in ticket sales before a South American leg was added, which could earn an additional $40 million-plus. An Australian leg of the tour is being announced shortly.

- Industry insiders say $75 million in tour merchandise sales is likely. This has always been a huge moneymaker for Madonna, who will have an even bigger spread of merchandise available at her upcoming shows.

- $60 million is expected in sales for her new perfume, Truth or Dare, according to Women’s Wear Daily.

- Insiders report that Madonna made $10 million from her recent deal with Smirnoff. The company has been hyping her tour with TV spots and has just released a special “Madonna” edition bottle of their vodka.

- The Queen of Pop is hoping to rake in $10 million in TV and DVD worldwide rights for the broadcast of her upcoming tour.

- Retail experts say Madonna will earn $5 million in 2012 from her “Material Girl” clothing line and upcoming Macy’s lingerie line.

Haters can call her “old”, “washed up” and a “has-been” as much as they want but people are still filling her pockets full of their hard-earned $$$ (me being one of them) so I don’t think the Queen of Pop is letting down her reign anytime soon!

Madonna Opens Up For Candidly Interview With ‘Rock Center’…

by: Taj | April 19th, 2012

Madonna has had a lot of ups and down over the last few weeks with the release of her album MDNA. She debuted at #1 with the new album only to watch it plummeted with this highest drop in Billboard history in its second week… Her eldest daughter Lourdess made momma proud by singing backup on one of the tracks on her new album, then last week pictures surfaced of the 15 year old smoking a cigarette which did sit well with the “Girl Gone Wild” singer… She made a surprise appearance at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami to introducer her dj/producer friend Avicii but she ended up angering a couple of EDM big names by making a slang drug reference during her appearance. These kinds of highs and lows are nothing new to the music icon and in a recent Rock Center interview with Harry Smith, Madonna sat down and opened up pretty candidly about some of these hot topics. Find out what the (very relaxed) Queen of Pop had to say of about her album, her daughter caught smoking as well as her response when asked if she feels like she “still has something to prove”…

Madonna Scores Another US #1 Album With ‘MDNA’…

by: Taj | April 4th, 2012

All hail the Queen of Pop!! Madonna has officially scored her eighth #1 album on the Billboard 200 chart this week with the debut of her MDNA album!! This means Madonna is now in second place for female artist with the most #1 albums right behind Barbra Streisand! MDNA sold 359,000 copies this week also making it Madge’s 5th straight studio album to debut at #1. Her previous album, 2008′s Hard Candy, only moved 280,000 units to nab the top spot. It should also be noted that MDNA’s numbers exceeded industry experts’ projected 300-350k that they based on first day sales. Congrats to Madonna for proving that at 53, she can still slay the charts… Or as Nicki Minaj simply put it; “There’s only one Queen and that’s Madonna… BITCH!

Update: Looks like camp Madonna threw the “Girl Gone Wild” singer a little surprise party to announce her #1 album debut! Check out the fun shenanigans below…

Madonna’s ‘MDNA’ Album Breaks UK Record…

by: Taj | April 3rd, 2012

Move over Queen Elizabeth II, England officially has 2 Queens this week! Queen of Pop, Madonna, has made presence known in the country this week when she scored her 12th #1 album with her new effort, MDNA. This new career milestone also earns Madge the record in the UK for having the most #1 albums by a solo artist!! Once again, Madonna has defied all the odds the have been set against her in this very ageist industry and has proven that not only can she still can compete with the pop tarts and impersonators half her age,  but she can still score #1 albums and break records while she’s at it. She’s also expected to debut at #1 with MDNA here in the United States next week… You know I’ll be letting you know when she does! ;-)

If you haven’t bought the album, go out and get it today! After having a full week with the LP, I have grown to really love it! Here’s one of my favorite tracks off of MDNA, “Turn Up The Radio“…

Madonna’s New Perfume Commercial Gets Banned From TV…

by: Taj | March 31st, 2012

Looks like Madonna is really getting back to her raunchy roots lately! First her music video for her single “Girl Gone Wild” gets banned from not MTV but Youtube (since Youtube is where people actually watch music vids nowadays) and now the newly released commercial for her new fragrance Truth or Dare has been deemed too racy for ABC! The black and white ad which is set to the Offer Nissim remix of “Girl Gone Wild” features a sexy Madge wearing s&m inspired lingerie, a mask and a harness. The clip looks more like a long lost scene from her “Erotica” music video than a commercial intended for television! Hot!!! And since the pop icon has been very publicly petitioning to lasso Quentin Tarantino to direct a music video for her very edgy MDNA track “Gang Bang,” I have a feeling she’s planning on getting ‘banned’ a few more times this era.

Madonna ‘On Track To Debut At #1′ According To Billboard…

by: Taj | March 29th, 2012

I’m trying not to get too excited till the numbers are officially in, but according to Billboard.com, Madonna is “on track” to scoring her fifth consecutive #1 debut with her new album MDNA next week!! As a devoted but objective and realistic fan, I know that the 53 year old Queen of Pop isn’t as “marketable” as she use to be to the younger generation as well as mainstream radio, so I basically try to not worry too much about chart numbers as far as she’s concerned. (Especially when her singles are concerned) As long as she keeps putting out music that I enjoy, the ‘Rihanna’s‘ and the ‘Ke$ha’s’ of the world can have their chart bragging rights! But at the same time, I can’t help but get excited everytime she defies the odds and scores another #1 album!  According to industry insiders, the album is projected to sell 300,000 to 350,000 copies by the end of the week making it her biggest debut since her Confessions… album. Her last album, 2008′s Hard Candy, also debuted at #1 but with only 280,000 copies sold. I can only imagine what MDNA’s numbers would have looked like if the physical album was released the day after the Super Bowl. Anyhow, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Madge since nothing is set in stone just yet… I have to admit that my opinion about this album has drastically changed since my first listen when I wrote my review. (which some of you weren’t too happy about) I’ve actually really grown from “liking” the set to “LUVING” it! Have you bought your copy of MDNA yet…?

By the way, check out this fun little MDNA Album Mix created by David Harlow
