WOW… I can’t believe I almost missed this one! This is a few days old but I wanted to post it anyway just in case some of you haven’t seen already. So Gabourey Sidibe, the Oscar nominated actress who starred in Precious, has a mom named Alice Tan Ridley who has been singing in the New York subway stations for the last 20 years. After her daughter found fame in Hollywood, the 58 year old vocalist decided to finally follow her own dreams and took her God given vocal talent to the America’s Got Talent stage. Turns out, Precious’ mom not only can sing… But she can SANG!!! Check out Alice’s show stopping rendition of Etta James’ “At Last“. AMAZING performance that’ll have you asking, “Susan Boyle who???!!!”
AND SHE IS EFFEN AMAZING!!!! Alice Tan Ridley, mother ofPrecious star and Academy Award-nominee, Gabourey Sidibe, has been singing in the New York subway stations for 18 years!!! Even after her daughter’s new found fame and fortune… Alice continues to sing under the streets of New York because she loves what she does and she refuses to take hand outs from her children. WOW… what a powerful message and life long lesson she’s teaching her kids. Must be a very humbling experience for her daughter.
