New Music: Britney Spears – Alien (Produced By William Orbit)

The much anticipated William Orbit track off of Britney Spears’ forthcoming album has finally leaked and while “Alien” is a pretty decent song, I don’t think it’s as out of this world as the hype promised. The mid-tempo pop ditty is neither the best I’ve heard from Britney or Orbit! I think what makes this track stand out is that Britney’s vocals aren’t as auto-tuned as usual. As a matter of fact, William Orbit recently bragged that she required no auto-tuning at all on this track… Just a producer that “knows how to make a singer sing great“. Super-fans now can cling tightly to this song when they need something to reference while defending Britney’s vocal abilities in their online stan wars! What do you think of “Alien“?

I really like the songs I have been hearing. Alien, Passenger, Perfume… Very mellow, laid back Britney. Makes me feel happy inside.

Not bad, not great…production is the best part. At this point can we forgo the leaks for Britney and Mariah and just put the damn thing out already?

I don’t believe there is nothing processing her voice in parts of the song. Especially during the chorus, her longer notes sound artificially lengthened. Sure, they may be no autotune per se, but there is definitely something.

However, it’s nice to see that she isn’t completely in EDM cash-in mode with the upcoming album.

Taj can I ask you a question,
what takes so long for the record companies to bring out an album?
Do the record companies leak them selfs to get some buzz going.
    Sometimes it feels forever,
for example Lady Gaga’s album it seem like it take two extra months for to come out.

  • Taj Says:

I honestly don’t know what the deal is these days but one guess is simply that record companies don’t make a whole lot of $$ off of actual record sales anymore so there isn’t a pressing to release the album. Instead they release (and “leak”) “buzz” tracks off the album to feel out the response to the artists new work giving them a better idea which tracks they should release as singles (Gaga’s “Do What You Want” is a good example) or whether the artist should just go back into the studio and completely overhaul their album (Mariah/Beyonce for example). That’s my theory. Albums aren’t as important as they use to be it seems.

In the case of Lady Gaga’s album, they had planned for it to come out when it did. Keep in mind that her last album Born This Way had the first single out in early February, the 2nd single in mid April, then the album was out in late May,

It seems like it is becoming more normal to have 2 singles out before the album is released.

What do you think about the shotty vox mixing around the 2:14 ? To be the first song on the album and for the one top artists in the industry, I’m disappointed at the carelessness to over look such an obvious mixup. Thoughts?
