Come celebrate the penance of lent by dancing in the streets under the stars of Hillcrest. We’ll adorn you with beads galore and quench your thirst all night long on University Avenue.

11th Annual Hillcrest Mardi Gras

The GSDBA Charitable Foundation and the Hillcrest Business Association are pleased to announce the 11th Annual Hillcrest Mardi Gras Street Party to be held on February 21, 2012.  The annual event benefits both organizations and is patterned after the annual celebration held in New Orleans each year.

The Hillcrest Mardi Gras Street Party has grown steadily over the years, selling out in the VIP tent 2 years in a row.  The Hillcrest event offers San Diegans an opportunity to celebrate and experience Mardi Gras without spending a huge amount of money. Over the last decade the event has raised $160,000 for neighborhood improvements and LGBT Youth Scholarships.

The Hillcrest Mardi Gras Street Party promises to be another fun-filled evening featuring food, live entertainment, costumes and of course, beads! This year the event will feature a huge dance stage where a nightclub feel will be recreated on the streets of Hillcrest.

The event benefits the GSDBA Foundation and the Hillcrest Business Association.  The GSDBA Charitable Foundation will use proceeds to provide college scholarships to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) youth and LGBT community straight allies within the San Diego community.  The Hillcrest Business Association uses its portion of the proceeds to further its mission to ensure that Hillcrest is a thriving, vibrant community, with an outstanding business presence.

The Greater San Diego Business Association (GSDBA) Foundation provides scholarships and mentoring to outstanding LGBT students and LGBT community student allies. The GSDBA Foundation also provides resources to the LGBT community through its Scholar Community Project Initiative.

The Hillcrest Business Association represents over 1,300 businesses acting as a liaison between the business community and the city, and encourages economic development for the Hillcrest area through events and promotions.
