The 7-week run of GAM3RS was so successful, the show is coming back for 17 more performances during Comic Con!
GAM3RS, the one-man play about love, life in a cubicle and elves is set for 17 performances in five days during Comic Con. GAM3RS garnered rave reviews when it was performed as part of the New York International Fringe Festival in 2007 and got an enthusiastic response when it was performed at MIT and elsewhere. It just completed a seven-week run at the ion theater in San Diego were it won praise from the San Diego critics.
The play was written by two San Diego residents: Brian Bielawski and Walter G. Meyer. Up until now Bielawski has been the only one to perform as “Steve,” the harried and hilarious tech support operator who has to juggle phone calls, an irate girlfriend, an angry mother, a micromanaging boss, and a smelly cubicle-mate while trying to save the world from destruction at the claws of evil elves.
Bielawski is very closely tied to the performance. He says, “It was based on my experiences gaming with my family and friends. The play started out as part of my graduate thesis project at USD.” Bielawski, who had never written anything before was having trouble getting the words on paper although he knew what he wanted to say and he enlisted the help of a friend-of-a-friend, professional writer Meyer. Bielawski recalls “The response to the performance at USD was tremendous. There was some interest immediately from a Hollywood producer, but I always knew I wanted to do more with the show in live theater.” Now, after productions in New York, Boston, New Jersey, Chicago and Orange County there is once again interest from Hollywood, but he still loves doing the play.

The exhibit will run from July 12 - 23, 2010 and will be displayed in the lobby of San Diego City Hall at 202 C Street in San Diego. A Celebration of San Diego LGBT History, which coincides with the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) Pride Month, will feature approximately 1100 square feet of historical GLBT community treasures. This will be the first time a GLBT exhibit, sponsored by Lambda Archives and the Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast of San Diego, has appeared at City Hall.
City Commissioner Nicole Murray Ramirez, whom created the exhibit, stated, “It is long overdue that the LGBT community, like other San Diego communities, showcase our city’s diversity, as well as educate those who visit City Hall. It’s time to celebrate the history and contributions LGBT citizens have made to our city.”
The GLBT exhibit will be open to the public with a special ribbon cutting ceremony, set for 12:15 pm, July 13th
For decades, the main floor of City Hall has played host to many diverse community exhibits from Black History Month to San Diego Seniors. Now, for the first time, an exhibit on GLBT history will feature approximately 1100 square feet of GLBT community treasures and artifacts, including a GLBT national and local timeline starting in the 1960s to the present.

SAN DIEGO -- Eve Jihan Jeffers (known as Eve) has a hard time describing what “genre” her music fits into. She is often described as a “rap and hip-hop” artist, but Eve says her hip-hop inspired performance style has a lot more infused into it.
The Grammy award winning artist will be one of the headline performers at this weekend’s San Diego LGBT Pride Festival, taking the stage at 8:15 p.m. Saturday, July 17, in Balboa Park.
While in the midst of an overseas tour and 2011 release of a new album titled “Lip Lock,” Eve says she is thrilled to perform for San Diego’s LGBT community.
“I’m very excited to come to San Diego Pride,” Eve said, noting that this will be her first time performing at any Pride event.
For Eve, performing is about having fun, and she knows that performing at this type of event will be a unique experience.
“When I am on stage, it is not just about me. I want to have fun with the fans and make sure everyone has a good time and enjoys the show,” she said.
Eve, who was bred in Philadelphia and now resides in Los Angeles, has been successful not only in the music business, but also in fashion and film. She has starred in a number of films since her debut in the 2002 Vin Diesel action blockbuster “XXX.”
Eve previously had a fashion line called Fetish, and has plans to release a second line in a year or so. Recently, Eve started her own film and production company.
With recent appearances on the hit show “Glee” and “Whip It!” along with an upcoming “Behind the Music” episode scheduled to air on VH1 this summer, Eve has been particularly busy, but is enthused to perform for a primarily LGBT audience.

San Diego Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Pride proudly presents the return of the Spirit of Stonewall Rally on Friday, July 16, at 6 pm on the Main (Cox Communication) Stage at the Festival site (Laurel Street and Sixth Avenue). The theme of the 2010 Rally which kicks off the weekend of celebration is: One World, One Heart, One Pride and Two Feet, One Cell phone and One Computer!
Pride celebrations everywhere trace their heritage to the eventful evening of June 28, 1969 when patrons of the Stonewall Inn in New York City said “No more! Enough is Enough!” to the harassing tactics of the New York City Police. That protest has grown to annual events held in major cities throughout the world. In San Diego, the first rally was held in Balboa Park in 1976. Speakers energized the crowd and a movement grew.
Today we still face challenges to our LGBT community. The Spirit of Stonewall Rally will focus on re-energizing the Spirit of Stonewall and channel our energy on the new/next wave of the movement.
The Spirit of Stonewall Rally is also a time to recognize and honor people in our community who are working hard to preserve our gains and to meet the challenges of equal marriage rights, the freedom to serve our country without fear of reprisal and safe schools for our young people.
This year SD LGBT Pride will honor Stuart Milk, the nephew of Harvey Milk, who carries on his uncle’s message of activism. He will be recognized as a SD Pride 2010 Grand Marshall.
